Beauty of the Pilbara
It's been a long while since I've updated the journal, so returning from a recent trip to the Pilbara I thought it would be a good time to share the beauty of Australia with dA. I wasn't on a holiday - I was travelling with church family supporting college students who were in turn giving love and care to the various communities in the north-west - but that didn't mean there wasn't opportunity to see some pretty sights. As a brief break in between serving others, we travelled around Karijini National Park in the Hamersley Range, and here are a selected few pictures which I hope might encourage others to visit the outback as well.

Colour Calibration on Linux
A few months ago I purchased a basic colourimeter for calibrating my PC monitors and it does a wonderful job of making displays consistent across multiple screens. No two monitors are the same, even those of the same model, panel, factory, etc. Calibrating one's screen is arguably essential for ensuring you are seeing the same overall image as other people, so it's quite a handy thing for artists, photographers and anyone dependent on accurate colour representation.
A problem I had, however, is that the system software is restricted to the Windows and Mac operating systems. What happens if you are using another operating system such as Linux
320 *Gigapixels* of London
This might be ancient news to some, but I was rather impressed by the staggering 320 gigapixel photographic view of London I just found out about today. (It does require Flash, unfortunately, but for legacy and compatibility reasons, that's probably not a bad choice.)
According to the descriptive blurb, the impressive view was put together from over 48 thousand photos taken atop the London BT Tower, from just after the 2012 Olympic Games, with Canon EOS 7D cameras. If projected and printed at 'standard' photographic resolutions, the entire image would be almost as tall and wide as Buckingham Palace (that's pretty big).
